The Harbour Bridge - thousands of steel rivets.

Sydney Trip July 2012

“….. I always end up meeting someone interesting or finding myself lost in a place I like to find myself…. “

Sydney is a truly awesome city to visit. I love coming here and having Portuguese chicken from little Portugal (in the suburb of Petersham). I also love going to Newtown for Thai cuisine. Newtown very much reminds me of Brisbane’s West End and it is the home of the free-thinking, art-loving, purple hair sporting, nose ringing, beatnik’en fashionistas.

Ribbed for his pleasure.

Foggy Sydney

Foggy Sydney

Sydney is most definitely a buzzing city and has plenty of cool events (for example last weekend’s Aroma Festival), hip restaurants and trendsetting hang-outs. Things can get happenin’ if you know where to look and/or if you have connections. But who am I to say? A little bit of adventurous roaming never hurt anyone and is a great way to become more acquainted with such a city.

Personally, I like to take to the streets (armed with my camera and tripod) and follow my nose and instincts.

I always end up meeting someone interesting or finding myself lost in a place I like to find myself.

I’m just sayin’.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Concrete Jungle

“…. I look at how root systems wrap themselves in every crack and crevice. Reticulating, torticulating, twisting, undulating, penetrating…”

Is it the moisture in the concrete or is it the lime? Could it be the tiniest amount of urban dirt that accumulates in the parting of two surfaces? What makes these plants thrive in these man-made, unnatural growing conditions?

I look at how root systems wrap themselves in every crack and crevice. Reticulating, torticulating, twisting, undulating, penetrating… dying? No – thriving.

Man builds. Nature takes over. Nature obeys no man’s laws.

Unnatural, you ask? No, of course not. There couldn’t be anything more natural than plants combating man made creations, they make the triste and grey look lively and interesting.

If I was a plant, I too would probably nestle my roots deep into the very urban foundation. My home would be right there, in its rightful place.

Letty and Zombies

Paddington Zombies

“…. Go to your garden and grab a hand-full of leaves, grass, dirt, sand, pebbles, dog doodoo and splash it on your face…”

Twas’ Nirvana’s 27th birthday party and the zombies came out to play… For some reason, there were more Britney zombies than other types of zombies. There was zombie punch, zombie posters, zombie food, eerie blood zombie lighting and even a zombie slayer.

We had a blast.

Ok, I have received a lot of questions about how zombie skin is made… Well, there are a number of ways – but the cheapest is very simple and I should get royalties for sharing my “secret” recipe with the world.

How to make zombie skin (Zombie Skin Recipe):

I use water and flour. Simple. Water and flour, apply it on your skin after you’ve mashed it to a gooey/sticky consistency (but not too runny). Then you can add jam (preferably one that has dark red berries – boysenberry jam works well).Go to your garden and grab a hand-full of leaves, grass, dirt, sand, pebbles, dog doodoo and splash it on your face, arms and hands… Whatever tickles your fancy – and presto! Bob’s your uncle.

!! A word of warning !!

This mix will dry, itch and stretch your skin – it’ll hurt like hell after a few hours and it gets very uncomfortable. Then the fun part is removing it from your skin, and hair. I understand what women go through when they wax. Oh the pain! I would suggest shaving those body parts where you plan to apply the mix.

The second method is used to make scabs, lacerations, and vile looking infections on your skin. You can purchase liquid latex from costume shops and mix it with toilet paper. Build layers up on top of one another and form the laceration as required!

Thanks for an awesome night Nirvana!

IOSHI

Ioshi was a friendly, super-sized Japanese doll I photographed at the front of a Tokyo dentist clinic (see toothbrush) back in 1999. This awesome little guy was the creative inspiration I used to design a bunch of business cards, desktop wallpapers and website header images.

I have always had a fascination with Japanese characters.

For your viewing pleasure, here are the many IOSHI’s, all in one single gallery.

Damien’s Bucks

And just like lightning, it was wild, it was loud and it was fast. The man himself, Damo, delivered a Buck’s night to be remembered. I have no idea how it happened, but the massive glass door that gave access to the huge balcony somehow came off its tracks. The support team frantically, yet carefully, lifted it and put it back in its rightful place.

It was a night to remembered. The beer flowed as effervescent as ever, as the dj mixed an array of groovy tunes.

But then, it was time to hit the club and dancey pants off till the wee hours of the morning.
